Pipeline Superintendent

This is a field leadership position requiring extensive hands-on pipeline experience, strong crew leadership, and the ability to take ownership of field operations from mobilization through project completion.

We are looking for an experienced pipeline professional who can independently lead field execution, plan work ahead, coordinate crews and resources, solve field issues, communicate effectively with clients and Project Management, and keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements.

This is not solely an administrative or supervisory position. The Pipeline Superintendent is expected to maintain a strong field presence, understand the work being performed, recognize potential issues before they affect the project, and provide practical leadership and direction to field personnel.

Position Summary

Trilogy Resources is seeking an experienced Pipeline Superintendent to lead field operations for pipeline construction, maintenance, integrity, anomaly-dig, repair, and related projects.

The Pipeline Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional execution of field activities, including crew coordination, manpower planning, equipment utilization, material readiness, production, quality, schedule awareness, safety compliance, and day-to-day field coordination.

This position works closely with Project Management, client representatives, inspectors, subcontractors, Foremen, and field personnel. The Superintendent serves as a key connection between project planning and field execution and is expected to communicate field conditions, progress, delays, resource needs, scope concerns, and other issues to Project Management before they negatively impact the project whenever reasonably possible.

The right person will be safety-focused, organized, proactive, dependable, capable of making sound field decisions, and comfortable taking ownership in a fast-paced pipeline environment.

Travel and out-of-town assignments are required based on project location and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction for pipeline construction, maintenance, integrity, anomaly-dig, repair, and related field operations.

  • Take ownership of field execution from mobilization through project completion.

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute daily field activities in accordance with project scope, schedule, drawings, specifications, procedures, work packages, and client requirements.

  • Direct and coordinate Foremen, equipment operators, skilled laborers, laborers, welders, technicians, subcontractors, and other field personnel as applicable.

  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, tools, subcontractors, and other resources necessary to maintain safe and productive field operations.

  • Plan work ahead and identify upcoming manpower, equipment, material, qualification, permitting, and logistical needs before they affect production.

  • Lead or oversee daily pre-job meetings, JSAs/JHAs, safety discussions, toolbox talks, and work planning.

  • Ensure field personnel understand the work to be performed, associated hazards, responsibilities, and expectations before work begins.

  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with Trilogy Resources policies, project requirements, and client-specific safety standards.

  • Exercise and support stop-work authority when unsafe or unclear conditions exist.

  • Coordinate directly and professionally with client representatives, inspectors, Project Management, subcontractors, and other contractors in the field.

  • Oversee pipeline excavation, anomaly digs, repairs, maintenance, recoating, replacements, tie-ins, hydrotesting, backfill, restoration, and other applicable pipeline construction activities.

  • Ensure safe excavation practices are followed when working around active pipelines, exposed pipe, underground utilities, and other critical facilities.

  • Ensure required spotters, excavation controls, utility markings, tolerance zones, and other applicable safe-digging practices are followed.

  • Review drawings, alignment sheets, project specifications, procedures, work packages, and other project documentation with field personnel as applicable.

  • Ensure field work is performed according to applicable drawings, specifications, procedures, and quality requirements.

  • Monitor daily production and compare actual field progress to project schedules and planned activities.

  • Proactively identify issues that could affect safety, schedule, cost, quality, productivity, or client expectations.

  • Develop and recommend practical field solutions to keep projects moving while maintaining safety, quality, and project requirements.

  • Communicate project progress, manpower, equipment utilization, production, delays, field conditions, and other significant issues to Project Management.

  • Identify work that appears to be outside the original project scope or could result in additional cost or schedule impact.

  • Communicate potential change-order conditions to Project Management before additional work is performed whenever reasonably possible.

  • Do not commit Trilogy Resources to additional scope, cost, schedule changes, or contractual obligations without appropriate authorization.

  • Maintain or ensure completion of accurate daily reports, manpower records, equipment records, production information, and other required field documentation.

  • Ensure field documentation accurately reflects work performed, delays, client requests, equipment utilization, manpower, and significant field conditions.

  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment mobilization and demobilization, staging, and jobsite logistics.

  • Ensure crews have the proper tools, equipment, PPE, permits, qualifications, documentation, and materials necessary to perform assigned work.

  • Verify employees are trained, competent, and qualified for assigned tasks, including applicable Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements.

  • Ensure employees do not perform work for which they are not properly trained, qualified, or authorized.

  • Enforce company policies, attendance expectations, safety requirements, work standards, and jobsite expectations.

  • Address field performance, attendance, safety, conduct, or accountability concerns and communicate significant issues to management.

  • Provide coaching, direction, and field leadership to Foremen and other field personnel.

  • Maintain professional communication and working relationships with clients, inspectors, employees, subcontractors, vendors, and Project Management.

  • Ensure jobsites, equipment, trucks, trailers, tools, and work areas are maintained in a safe, organized, and professional condition.

  • Support incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, and other safety or operational follow-up when required.

  • Assist with project closeout, demobilization, equipment and material reconciliation, and completion of outstanding field items.

  • Perform additional field leadership and operational responsibilities as directed by management.

What Success Looks Like

The Pipeline Superintendent should independently maintain a clear understanding of:

  • Whether Foremen and crews clearly understand the work plan, priorities, hazards, and expectations.

  • Whether field activities are being completed safely and according to project requirements.

  • Whether production is meeting expectations and what issues could cause delays.

  • What issues can appropriately be resolved in the field and what issues require Project Management, client, or management involvement.

  • Whether required OQs, training, permits, and other qualifications are current and appropriate for the work being performed.

  • Whether crews are meeting Trilogy Resources and client expectations for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, conduct, and professionalism.

  • Whether upcoming work has been properly planned and resources are ready before they are needed.

  • What outstanding items remain and who is responsible for completing them.

The expectation: Project Management should be able to rely on the Pipeline Superintendent to take ownership of field execution without continual day-to-day direction. The Superintendent should know what is happening in the field, what is coming next, what resources are needed, what problems exist, and what could potentially affect safety, quality, cost, or schedule. Issues should be communicated early, practical solutions should be recommended, and crews should remain organized, accountable, safe, and productive.
